Shetland Games 2005

The Western Isles Squad adventure started on Saturday 9th July. It was an early start for the athletes travelling from Uist and Barra as they had to be at the Lewis Sports Centre for 11am to meet up with the rest of the Squad and officials that were travelling to Shetland. Before travelling to the airport, the team had a photo shoot then headed on to Shetland.

Once the team touched down in Shetland, it was off to the Van Gogh cruise ship, the team’s base for the duration of the games. The Games started with all competing teams taking part in the opening ceremony at the Clickman Leisure Complex.

Members of the Western Isles Squad were competing in 6 different sports; Athletics, Bowls, Men’s Football, Golf, Shooting and Squash. The whole squad showed tremendous team spirit and the collection of medals they brought home is a credit to all involved.
